Have you ever imagined sharing the stage with Bryn Terfel, José Carreras or Kiri Te Kanawa?

This could become a reality if you join the Royal Choral Society. The RCS is in the top rank of the world’s great choirs and sings regularly in some of the UK’s finest concert halls and cathedrals, joining with top international orchestras, soloists and celebrities.

The RCS is always looking for new members to swell the ranks.

Simply contact Virginia Edwyn-Jones at the RCS office virginia@royalchoralsociety.co.uk by email or telephone 020 7376 3718 to request an application form. A straightforward audition is required and details of this are provided with the application form. Auditions are held on Monday evenings prior to rehearsals.

We also hold regular Open Rehearsals, where you can see "from the inside" how the choir works.

An Enduring Inspiration

We heard recently about a boy who was taken to our hear our Christmas Carols concert at the Royal Albert Hall last year. He was so inspired by what he heard that he insisted on auditioning for his school’s chamber choir (a very prestigious school in West London). He was successful and is now a full-time treble singing church services and concerts both here in the UK and overseas – indeed the choir is singing in Notre Dame Cathedral later this term.

His mother is very proud – and so are we! We hope that when his voice breaks that he will remember who inspired him and come back to join our ranks.

The RCS currently has a membership of around 200 amateur singers of all ages and from all walks of life. We rehearse once a week – on Monday evenings – at the City of London School for Girls near the Barbican Centre, London. Members enjoy intensive rehearsals, covering either one particular work at a time or, on other occasions, up to ten ‘numbers’ for a ‘popular’ concert, such as Classical Spectacular. We occasionally have extra rehearsals if we are approaching a concert date.

Even if you cannot sing, the FRIENDS of the Royal Choral Society offers a chance to make music with one of London’s finest choirs, keeping members in touch with all the choir’s activities and an opportunity to buy tickets for some concerts at a discounted price.
